As a matter of fact, you can consider XML as the native format for ADO.NET data, even though data is stored in memory in a different format to maximize throughput. You can define the schema of the imported or exported XML stream by using XSD schemas, a feature that simplifies interoperability with other platforms and data sources. For example, you can have a .NET application read and update a data source residing on a non-Windows system by using XML as a common denominator between the two worlds.
